A smile.

As defined:

To assume a facial expression indicating pleasure, favor, or amusement, but sometimes derision or scorn, characterized by an upturning of the corners of the mouth.

Generally some sort of greeting that we may exchange with a stranger who passes by or glance at a friend when they say something comical.

Used in many different contexts.

But every once and a while you find a smile that grabs you, pulls you in and you can't help but be filled with happiness and hope from it.

I bring this up, stemming from a conversation I had long ago with my friend Dave, about God in His human form. What made Jesus so amazing (among a billion other things) was that He was exposed to what we were exposed to...

Experiencing what we felt...laughing about things that would make us laugh, worrying about things that would make us worry, smiling about things that would make us smile, crying about things that would make us cry.

The New Testament is covered with all sort of other stories of Christ feeling emotions like us.

Jesus hurt like us - Jesus wept. John 11:35

He felt joy like us - I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. John 15:11

He was angry like us - But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. "Get behind me, Satan!" he said. "You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men." Mark 8:33

How awesome? God, our Creator, our Hope, our Salvation, in human form, felt what we felt! Tears would fall from His face. He would clinch His fists in anger. He would laugh or smile when something brought him bliss.

In a very round about way, I talk about this because of the title of this entry...that very simple, innocent smile.

To be exactly like the Perfect One is impossible but, like us, He conveyed His emotions...

it can start with a smile, a nod, a wink, a warm greeting...

to make someone's day that much better. Much like Christ would of done.
